National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, Kashmir, has been officially approved by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. This significant milestone was achieved through the Ministry’s communication No. F. No. 14/3/NSS/RDD/2023-24/20, dated 08-05-2023, which formally accords recognition and sanction to the NSS Unit at the University.
This approval marks a new chapter in the University’s ongoing commitment to nation-building and community engagement through active student participation in voluntary service. The NSS Unit at IUST aims to instill the core values of social responsibility, discipline, and selfless service among students by involving them in various outreach and developmental programs.
With this formal recognition, the IUST NSS Unit will now function in accordance with the guidelines and framework laid down by the Ministry. It will undertake a broad range of activities, including:
Community development initiatives
Environmental awareness campaigns
Health and hygiene drives
Literacy and education programs
Disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts
National integration and communal harmony projects
Furthermore, in alignment with the directives of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Program Coordinator, NSS, has already submitted a proposal for the establishment of three new NSS Units in the following constituent colleges:
Government Polytechnic College, Pulwama
Alamdar Memorial College of Nursing & Medical Technology
Syed Mantaqi Memorial College of Nursing & Medical Technology
Accordingly, the proposal has been forwarded to the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, for further necessary action.
This initiative is aimed at expanding NSS activities across these institutions, thereby strengthening youth engagement, community service, and personality development among students in the region.
